How you think and what you think about yourself has a huge impact on your confidence level and self esteem.
Imagine you are at a social gathering. All the time you are concerned with what people are thinking about you. Do they think you look dreadful or your conversation is dull? You internally criticise yourself “What did you say that for?” “You sound so stupid”….
How will that make you feel? How will it make you behave? It certainly won’t help your confidence levels.
This is exactly the kind of thing I used to do – and then it was a downward spiral. By the end of the evening I would feel mentally battered – I dreaded going to these social occasions, especially if I didn’t know many people.
Here’s the thing – who is doing this to you? You are – no one else. So often we beat ourselves up with our very own thoughts.
So what can be done about this? I remember on one of my Confidence Workshops a lady was amazed that she could change her thinking – for good. It’s not about consciously turning every thought into a positive thought – this is about changing your thought process so that you naturally and unconsciously have a supported way of thinking. It is liberating!
