Anxiety

Fears & Phobias

Negative Thoughts
Are you often critical of yourself? Are your negative thoughts crushing your confidence?

Many people suffer from constant negative thoughts and if you relate to this then you are not alone. However, I’d like you to imagine saying your negative thoughts out loud aimed at a friend. Would that be horrendous? I often ask my clients to do this and they look at me in horror. One client said: “I wouldn’t have any friends left if I did that!”

So what’s the reason that people say cruel and nasty negative thoughts to themselves? It’s based on misunderstanding of thought and how thoughts work. This can often start at an early age, forming habitual behaviour later in life. Unfortunately, many people have found that the more they try not to have negative thoughts, the more they have them.

Stuck Emotions
Are you suffering from stuck emotions? Life can throw us a curve-ball (or many all at one time). Unexpected situations such as loss, change and conflict can cause us to feel emotional in the extreme. And it seems that these situations make us feel sad, angry, jealous, or regretful, we can feel out of control and unable to cope even with everyday life.

Perhaps you can relate to the above? Let me assure you that feeling emotional is fine – there are no “bad” emotions. Can you imagine life with no emotions? Life would be very bland, just full of facts.

However, it’s a different matter when we have stuck emotions for a long time – weeks, months, or even years. Over time these can affect our physical and mental health, as well as our personal relationships.

Our emotions are a product of our thinking - not from anything outside of us even though it seems that way. When our thoughts change, so do our feelings! They are useful though as they are a perfect guidance system to understand what’s happening with us. How would it be if you notice your emotions and then decide if you want to hold onto them or let them go? What if you felt in control of your emotions, rather than let external circumstances control you?
