My coaching journey began in 2005 when I experienced the power of Coaching, and then in 2006 at Achievement Specialists where I first did my first coaching accreditation. How life has changed in the years since then! Many years I have returned as a crew member, taking part in many training courses. It is fantastic to go back and be surrounded by people with the same passions as me!
This week I was coaching someone who had a huge challenge ahead: they wanted to complete their accreditation in just three weeks. That’s 50 hours of coaching, a substantial thesis and a number of assessments – a huge mountain to climb! One of the questions I asked her was, if you look back into your past, was there a time when you managed to achieve a similar challenge? How did you do it?
She gave me a huge smile and said, “how could I forget?”. When she had been studying for her degree she had overcome a number of challenges, through sheer determination and focus, and ultimately completed her degree against the odds. Suddenly, it became clear that once again she could complete the project in hand, by using the same resources she had drawn from and utilised over 12 years ago.
So my tip for you today? If you have a challenge or a project that you’re struggling to keep on top of, reflect back on when you had a similar situation in the past. You will probably be surprised at how easy that is! How did you climb that mountain? Hindsight is a wonderful thing, so take advantage this time round – what could you have done differently last time and how could you use this knowledge to aid your current challenge?
