What are you focusing on?

Did you know that what you focus on increases? So, if you are focusing on being unconfident – you will remain unconfident. Our thoughts are extremely powerful – they impact on our beliefs, our feelings and our behaviours. One of the most insight things I have learned over the last 5 years is that we can choose what we think and how we think – wow!

So this is how it works

We focus on something – let’s say “I can’t make friends” – we then check in with our beliefs based on background / media etc “I believe that I’ve always been shy and unconfident”. We then find evidence that our belief is true – and finding this evidence has an impact on how we feel. This causes us to behave in a certain way – perhaps at a party avoid talking with people and standing with a closed body language. We then focus on the outcome..etc…etc

 So – what would happen if we change one of these – be it focus, belief, evidence, feeling, behaviour?

People put a label on themselves such as “I am unconfident”, however we can all do something that we are confident at – like making a cup of tea. Remember – there was a time when you were younger and you couldn’t make a cup of tea. So if we focus on times when we are confident, change our thought patterns – that changes how we feel about ourselves and we will then change our behaviour and physiology.

What would happen if we explore our belief – what are the payoffs with having a belief that is keeping you stuck? What don’t you have to face? What don’t you have to do? What comfort do you get? By being aware of this can start to weaken your belief. So what would you like to believe instead?
