Step 5 of the 7 Steps to Confidence is how to control your Emotions.
Emotions are part of who we are; without them, what meaning would life have? We wouldn’t have joy when a baby is born or when we have a sense of achievement; we wouldn’t feel sadness when a loved one dies. Life would be very bland, just full of facts. We certainly don’t want to be like Spock – devoid of emotion.
However sometimes our emotions can cause us issues and can negatively can affect our confidence, self esteem and even health. This could be:
The important thing is not to suppress your emotions but deal with them in a safe way. I have recently been running workshops with people that are at risk of redundancy; a very stressful time and many feel very angry about the situation. It’s fine to be angry and a natural emotion to have in the circumstances, however it is also important to deal with the anger and then decide to move on, rather than either suppress or hold on to this anger.
In the video I share with you one of my own light bulb moments which happened in 2007 when I realised the key to taking control of my own emotions. It’s very simple.
