I love the ‘gratitude’ idea …. it helps to overcome some of the negative thought patterns that can affect all of us, from time to time. When I’m counselling people with this problem, I use a slight variation on this approach which is ” just before you go to sleep, think about 3 good things that happened that day” They can be very simple things, like Lindsay’s birds singing, or the sun shining …. before you know where you are, you’ll subconciously be looking for good things during the day, that you want to think about before you go to sleep – doing this every night will quickly change negative thoughts to positive ones.
Thanks Nanette, much appreciated. Yes, by making it a daily routine that each day or night we remind ourselves of all the good things that have happened and be grateful each day means that we change our focus.
